Our client is a leading US-based healthcare company with over 30 years of experience. They offer a wide range of healthcare services and have offices in over 20 states.
Our client aimed to modernize the tech stack and the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) used by the newly acquired subsidiary to ensure smooth integration with their own systems. This, in turn, would streamline business operations and ensure that the subsidiary is aligned with all client policies.
N-iX helped the client migrate their data sources and dashboards containing information about patient history and visits, clinic network, providers, and insurance, from MS SQL Server to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). To enhance data transformation and management, we implemented the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process using Apache Airflow, Python, and DBT. We built a data pipeline using Apache Airflow to extract files from the EMR system and migrate them to GCP.
Additionally, we developed a PoC for a core analytics table that contains information about patient visits and payments. We developed Airflow Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) using Python to extract files from source systems, store them in GCP, and transfer files to BigQuery. Our engineers also built a solution to extract data from .bak files using Cloud SQL as an intermediate step.
Finally, we created merge requests and assisted the client’s DevOps team in deploying infrastructure using Terraform. We also implemented multiple cost-saving measures, such as housekeeping policies for data storage.
N-iX helped the client modernize their data infrastructure and migrate to GCP. This allowed the client to benefit in several ways:
- Improved the efficiency of business operations by modernizing the subsidiary’s technical stack to ensure smooth integration and alignment with the company’s policies;
- Streamlined the data processing workflow by implementing an ETL pipeline;
- Optimized costs by migrating to GCP and establishing various cost-saving measures.
