Redflex is an Australian-based company that develops intelligent transport solutions (ITS) for government, police, and traffic departments to make cities greener, safer, and smarter. The company has a large presence in the USA, the UK as well as countries in Asia and the Middle East. It employs around 500 people and works with 19 channel partners globally.

Partnership overview

Redflex needed a reliable software development partner with proven experience in Computer Vision to develop an intelligent transport solution with high detection accuracy. They looked for a company with an Agile mindset and versatile expertise in Python, Data Science, Deep Learning, etc.

Redflex needed to create a next-generation solution for traffic management, a byproduct of its existing solution, Halo-Edge. They wanted to increase their presence in the UK and in other countries in Europe. N-iX set up a strong team of data scientists and started the project by developing two PoCs. Our specialists developed a system that automatically detects whether a driver has fastened the seat belt or not.

Also, we offered several options for neural networks with different approaches to network training, allowing the client to identify a person behind the wheel. N-iX team is currently working on a PoC for capturing distracted driving behaviors to prevent accidents on the road.

The company designs and distributes different suites of solutions for Road Safety, Intelligent Traffic Management, Urban Traffic Management, and Back Office. It has a number of traffic enforcement cameras and sensors installed on roads that help detect offenses in real-time. Here at N-iX, we collaborate with the client’s team on a solution that monitors traffic on the road.

With the help of Computer Vision and Deep Learning, the solution can identify an offender behind the wheel. It detects whether a driver has fastened the seat belt or not. Also, it captures distracted driving behaviors, which divert attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, etc. It has automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) recognition of vehicles. This allows creating fines in real-time based on captured data.
